Hudson automobiles remain highly regarded for their advancements in automotive design, particularly the innovative Step Down design, introduced on the 1948 Commodore. Unlike traditional body-on-frame construction, which forced passengers to climb up to enter their vehicles, Hudson designers placed the entire passenger compartment down inside the chassis, surrounded by a sturdy perimeter frame. This positioned the car at a lower center of gravity, enabling it to handle exceptionally well. Hudson recognized the marketing value of racing, and engineers including Vince Piggins developed a line of severe usage parts which transformed the robust Hornet into the definitive stock car of the early 1950s. A lineup of drivers including Dick Rathmann, Tim Flock, Jack McGrath, Frank Mundy and Lou Figaro accumulated 13 racing wins in 1951, 49 in 1952 and 46 in 1953 in The Fabulous Hudson Hornet. No other car of the time could match the Hudson's bulletproof construction, good handling and factory support. One of only 500 produced in 1951, the two-door convertible has beautiful concave lines that lead to a round rear end that looks complete from behind. The well-known car is powered by none other than the respected Hudson inline eight-cylinder engine. This particular Hudson Hornet Convertible Brougham has been restored from the ground-up and has been described in terms such as a piece of jewelry. The exterior is finished in show-quality Cornish Cream with flawless chrome and stainless steel trim. The interior is finished in maroon leather upholstery, with the correct waffle-pattern door inserts, and it is complemented by a tan stay-fast power convertible top. The floor is of a matching red carpet.Several desirable options adorn this magnificent example, including radio, heater, power windows, driver- and passenger-side pillar-mounted spotlights, fender skirts, bias-ply wide whitewalls with factory full wheel covers. The expensive restoration this car received was certainly worthy for such an exceptional automobile. The 1951 Hudson Hornet is an unforgettable racing legend, and a must have for any serious collector of American automobiles.
1952 Hudson Hornet 1952 Hudson Hornet

1952 Hudson Hornet, I bought this car to experience the thrill of driving a Hudson Hornet. I heard so much about them over the years that I just had to own and drive one. But it had to be a certain one, one that I was exteemely attracted to. I searched all over the country for one and even joined the HET club to see and learn more about them. Finally, this one came up on the web. I now know what they mean when they say, seek and ye shall find. It took a while, but I got er done! Much money was spent to get everything right on this beauty. It sat for nine years in a garage and when I got the car home and started driving it around, It started to have common problems after a car sets to long but everything over time was repaired and this beauty runs excellent. Too many repairs to list. If interested please call me at (951) 850-5770. or email me @ (coololds88@yahoo.com) Dave

Good Solid 1951 Hudson Hornet. Nice straight body, all exterior trim installed.
This vehicle is in the realm of a "Drivable Dream". It has been maintained, with parts replaced as needed.
In my 8+ years of ownership, I have replaced the water pump, master brake cylinder, front end rebuild kit (king pins, tie rod ends, bushings), battery (6 volt positive ground) and installed a Pertronix electronic ignition.
This car runs and drives very nicely for a 64 year old car which has been lovingly maintained.
It has a 308 cubic inch flat head in-line 6 cylinder engine rated at 145HP and 257lb feet of torque. The wheelbase is 123" and total length is just over 208" with a weight of 3600 lbs. It has a factory 4 speed Hydramatic transmission.
The "step down" design is what made these Hudsons so fabulous with the low center of gravity and high torque flathead six. The body fits over the frame rails as opposed to siting on top of them. You step down over the frame rails to enter rather than stepping up to climb in. Parked next to other vehicles of the same vintage you can see the roof is a couple of inches lower and the windows are 11 inches in height. Folks often ask if the top has been chopped, but that is the way they came from the factory. The huge steering wheel provides leverage for the period "Armstrong" steering. I tell folks who have taken it for a drive to remember to steer early and steer often.
Accessories include twin spot lights, compass (think 1951 vintage GPS), visor, adjustable antenna, fog lights, head lamp shades, rear window blind, and the all important "passing eye" mirror. The passing eye allows you to see what is coming in the opposite lane should you get stuck behind a bus or hay wagon on a two lane road. Much safer than simply sticking your nose in the other lane.
This is a vehicle for the individual who wants to capture the feel and smell of the 1950's with a car that was top shelf in its time. The enormous back seat with huge fold down center armrest will have your passangers feeling like Miss Daisy.
Or maybe you are looking to live your own Jack Kerouac fantasy. Like Dean Moriarty said "That Hudson goes!" As recently as 2009 this car was driven 1800 miles in a single week to attend the 100th Anniversary of the Hudson Motor Car company in Detroit.
Documentation including receipts, owner's and shop manuals, Hudson advertising literature, period reviews and Hudson club glossy newletters included along with all trophies. (This isn't a "show car" but still seems to facinate folks at local shows.)
